High Speed Network Is UP

Reminder: Physics High Speed Network Is UP

As was recently noted, the new high speed network in the Physics Building (082) is now operating at its design speed (1000Base-T or GigE).

Please Note

NTS (Networking and Telecommunication services) is preparing to
shutdown the old network at the end of the month
(28 February 2007).

Most station jacks (the new jacks/wallplates installed over the Fall 2006 season) have been patched through to the network switches. These station jacks were installed according to the distribution of the old network, that is, one station wallplate with two jacks was installed for each old wallplate. Not all jacks are active, however. Only activated were those station wallplates closest to the location of equipment you had installed as of last fall; in those cases activation was effected on the odd numbered or left hand jack on each station wallplate.

PCS will provide the necessary cabling to connect your computer. PCS is prepared to offer assistance should you need it.

In order to receive these you may either:

In either case be prepared to provide:
  1. Room number
  2. Old and new wallplate/jack number, if possible
  3. Your computer's IP Address
  4. Your Directory ID

You can then swap out the old connections, replacing the old cables with new.

NOTE: NTS (Networking and Telecommunication services) is preparing to shutdown the old network at the end of the month (28 February 2007).
