Is the Wallplate Network Jack Activated? To check on the status of a
wallplate network jack, look for the jack number (this number is
typically written on the top of the connection box (wallplate) where the
Room's telephone is attached). There may be other jacks located within the
room. Look for these close to where you might want to locate your
computer. Then go to NOC's Office/Classroom Data Jack
Lookup Page. If the jack is active, any IP Address(es) assigned to
the jack will be displayed. (NOTE: Any IP Addresses displayed may, in
fact, be in use by another computer.) If the network jack is not
activated, go to the next step.
To request activation of a Network Jack which has not yet been
activated, contact the Physics Department's
Facilities Office, providing the Building Designation (Physics is BLDG. 082),
the Room Number where the jack is
located, the
Jack Number, and Your Telephone Number..
IP Address: To request an IP Address and/or a specifis HOSTNAME for
your computer, contact the
Physics Network Manager, specifying the Building
Designation, the Room # where the network jack is located, the
Jack Number to which the IP Address is to be assigned, the
HOSTNAME (Optional), and your contact information.
