Change in Login Authentication |
With the completion of the consolidation of University IDs to the Directory ID (DirID) for signing on to all University owned systems ('ares.umd.edu', ELM, Timesheets, Testudo, PHR, Mail@umd, VPN, campus dial-up, etc.), the next step will be taken, namely, to provide for DirID and DirID password authentication for individual users.
The systems affected will be WAM, GLUE (including Dept. of Physics systems, NOT including the Novell Netware server, 'delphi'), GRACE (a component of Glue) and DEANS, and any applications that rely on them for authentication (for example, login and email). Also affected will be university dial-up, VPN, and university wireless authentication, which currently use EITHER Directory or WAM authentication.
This change-over is scheduled to occur on Tuesday, 16 January 2007. For official OIT information on the change-over click here.
Under this new system login name and password will be provided by the campus Directory system (your DirID and DirID Password) with authentication by means of the Kerberos 5 system ( the operation of the Kerberos 5 system is described here). More complete information may be found in the full Wikipedia article .} The new system will replace the present Kerberos 4 system which does not handle integration with the Directory.
If you have not set your DirID password recently, that is, during the recent password expiration period (all DirID passwords were set to expire on or before 15 November 2006), you will need to set it now in order to access the the WAM, GLUE and DEANS systems, including all those listed above, after the 16 January 2007 change-over to Kerberos 5 authentication.

Or more directly for the case in which you have forgotten your password, you may set responses to challenge questions to reset that password. To setup these questions click here. In order to accomplish this, you will need to have a valid current Directory ID password or be able to answer certain privacy questions.
