Email (Mail@umd.edu) and computer account (WAM and
glue) creation is based on the campus LDAP Directory
Database System in which all student, faculty, and staff data are stored.
You must be listed in this database in order to proceed.
To create these accounts use either of these methods:

In order to proceed you must be listed in the campus LDAP Directory.
To check your status on this system go to the Directory ID Search
page. If you do not find a listing, check you status with the Departmental
Personnel Office (PHY-1109).
Once you have verified that you are in the LDAP Directory, you will
need to set your Directory Identity. Follow the instructions on the Directory Identiy
Page. You must use your Directory ID and Directory
Password to access various campus systems, including the account creation
processor, listed in the next step.
Start here to establish your computer and email accounts with
access to systems and services. Depending on your relationship with the
University and how you are entering, you should start at one of the
following links:
Assure that you activate both your Mail@umd and
glue accounts by checking the appropriate boxes.
Your email Mail@umd account will be activated almost
immediately; your glue account should be active in less than
one working day;
When your glue account has become active, you may access
one of the Physics login computers:
the generic login for All Users is through an SSH session on
'login.physics.umd.edu';
Your Mail@umd
should be active immediately. It is accessible at: http://mail.umd.edu/. Your mail addtess
will be 'DirID@umd.edu', or equivalently
'username@umd.edu';

system, by calling X-56180, or going to PHY-1328.
Requesting Access to Departmental or Research
Group Resources
login to the glue system. If you do not currently
have access to a PNCE system, you can login to
'glue.umd.edu'.
execute the program '/:/department/phys/local/bin/physaccess'
select the group you are a member of; if you do not yet have
access to the Physics Network Computing Environment, and you are a
legitimate member of the Department of Physics, you should select the
'General Physics Departmental Access' option.
a request will be sent to the manager of the specific group asking for
authorization. When authorization is received, access will be
granted.
